Power Factor Correction
Power factor correction (PFC) is a fundamental principle of electrical engineering where power efficiency is lost as a result of the amps and volts running ‘out of phase', known as reactive power. Whilst the maximum efficiency achievable is unity (1), a power factor of 0.95 to 0.98 is optimal, with anything less potentially incurring reactive power and climate levy charges from your power supplier and the unnecessary deterioration of your HV power equipment. T.P. Power Services will complete a harmonic analysis as part of our full PFC service to identify your plants power efficiency.
A power factor of 0.8 means that your plant is only receiving 80% of your sources power; but more importantly that you are paying full price for a fraction of the energy. One of our engineers can provide a full survey and test to identify how inefficient your power solution is.
Depending on the resultant power factor, we can offer a number of services to minimise wasted energy and improve efficiency; such as the installation of a capacitor.
We strive to deliver a maintenance scheme that is preventative, cost-effective, flexible and informed, and aims to deliver the following advantages:
-
Improved energy efficiency (0.95 optimal capacity)
-
Massive annual savings on utility bills
-
Improved operation of your plant equipment
-
Alleviating the need to upgrade your HV power equipment
-
Reduce the unnecessary deterioration of this equipment
