The removal, refitting and re-welding of three low Voltage IPB’s for Centrica had to be completed to allow the replacement of defective low voltage bushings within a 145MVA power transformer
TP Power Services picked by BP to complete the rewind of the main drilling transformer on their BP harding platform in the North Sea.
Upon de-tanking and inspection of the core, a fault in the C phase had caused a number of windings to explode and its ultimate electrical breakdown. After testing, its cause was believed to be its constant operation above its nominal tapchanger setting to meet the plants power requirements, resulting in the significant reduction of working life and severe electrical breakdown.
Given the transformers unscheduled down time, TP Power is providing a premium turnaround service for the rewind of three HV windings, making the service more cost-effective by utilising the existing core and
Within 5 weeks of project confirmation, TP Power services is in the final stage of completing a rewind and refurbishment service for Corus's failed 37.5MVA transformer. The transformer core has been re-constructed, dried, tanked, filled with oil and tested, and is waiting to be hermetically sealed and for the tanks exterior to be refurbished and re-coated. In addition to the agreed workscope, TPPS are modernising the winding temperature indicator at Corus's request and are performing additional tests on all exterior control equipment and cables.
