The removal, refitting and re-welding of three low Voltage IPB’s for Centrica had to be completed to allow the replacement of defective low voltage bushings within a 145MVA power transformer
TP Power Services picked by BP to complete the rewind of the main drilling transformer on their BP harding platform in the North Sea.
It was only in March when Centrica Storage approached us for the project, which was awarded only a month later. Having engineers with previous experience of offshore installation was essential to Centrica in terms of their quality and health & saftey demands. All engineers dedicated to the project have completed their Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training Courses in preparation for their first official site visit at the end of May.
The contracts details include the modification, installation and commissioning of two Dry Type Cast Resin Transformers at 1.6MVA and 2MVA. The project has a number of keys stages including the redesign and fabrication of the main busbar system to be completed at head office, followed by a site inspection to determine the measurements required for the fabrication the busbars for connection the main feed. Once the measurements and specifications are confirmed by our electrical design engineers, fabrication will continue in preparation for shipping and installation.
Our engineers will then work closely alongside the electrical team on site to situate and align the transformers within their cubicles; before mounting and installing the pre-fabricated busbars. Upon completion, TP Power Services engineers will be assisting in the testing and commissioning of the transformers.
