The removal, refitting and re-welding of three low Voltage IPB’s for Centrica had to be completed to allow the replacement of defective low voltage bushings within a 145MVA power transformer
TP Power Services picked by BP to complete the rewind of the main drilling transformer on their BP harding platform in the North Sea.
The project focus wasn’t just to deliver within short lead times, but to manufacture two units with increased efficiency and ideal working life of around thirty years. In order to achieve this, TPPS redesigned the oil cooling system, uprated the off-circuit tap selector, moved gas and oil sampling points to improve maintenance access, and incorporated more suitable silica gel breathers and oil temperature indicators into the design. Both transformers are currently under manufacture with project plans running ahead of schedule. Upon completion, TPPS will deliver six detailed assembly, operating and maintenance manuals that will help British Energy ensure they can maximise the working life of these units.
