The removal, refitting and re-welding of three low Voltage IPB’s for Centrica had to be completed to allow the replacement of defective low voltage bushings within a 145MVA power transformer
TP Power Services picked by BP to complete the rewind of the main drilling transformer on their BP harding platform in the North Sea.
TP Power Services were chosen as the most suitable contractor to meet the short lead times required and deliver the project within BP’s procurement parameters. The transformer core was shipped to refurbishment workshop where our engineers immediately inspected and stripped the transformer. Our premium rewind package ensured that the copper was ready for winding only 3 days after delivery of the transformer core, and the 3 low voltage coils and 3 high voltage coils had been wound, tested and dried ready for assembly within another 4 days.
Only one week after delivery, TPPS had stripped the core, rewound the coils, reassembled the transformer as well as designed and fabricated a new transformer tank ready for the main tests. Co-ordination with the client allowed their engineers to witness and approve the rewind at our testing facility in
Following delivery of the transformer, TPPS sent 2 offshore service engineers to the drilling platform to ensure the safe delivery of the transformer and assist the installation in any capacity the client required, with our engineers aiding in numerous installation works upon request.
Only 3 weeks after delivery, the transformer was refurbished and ready for installation and the clients repair plan had been met. Receiving the utmost thanks for our assistance in meeting the timescale required, we were informed that the drilling team had restarted work on the wells and were delivering new production for BP’s Harding platform.
